Alcohol affects relationships

Is alcohol affecting you or those around you?

Life can sometimes lead us down different paths we didn’t anticipate and we have found ourselves with various patterns of behaviour, sometimes ‘unhealthy’ habits or self-sabotage like binge drinking.

Maybe somewhere subconsciously there’s a notion that you have a reliance on or alcohol dependency.

Are you really aware how it might be affecting your life or relationships?  Perhaps there is a niggling fear of ‘What if I didn’t have alcohol in my life’.

How are you drinking?

Hypnosis for Alcohol with an experienced and highly qualified hypnosis and NLP practitioner Brisbane can help you cut down drinking to within healthy guidelines or alcohol cessation and get you back on the right path.

What are your reasons for drinking alcohol?

  • It has simply become part of your life. Over the years you haven’t realised how much and how frequently you’re drinking, you haven’t given it a second thought until now.
  • You look forward to those  ‘social’ days and nights out or the weekend where  binge drinking is the norm
    • Ask yourself “how ‘social’ is it, if you’re slurring your words, loud and obnoxious, staggering, having blackouts or aggressive behaviour, vomiting or becoming incontinent?”
  • Perhaps you are worried that you might have an alcohol dependency. But think “that’s just who I am”, it would be too hard to cut down or stop, so what’s the point.
  • You have little awareness about the risk to health or the impacts on your relationships, career, finances.

What keeps you drinking?

For many it’s a fear of not having alcohol in their life because “How will I……….?

    • cope or relax
    • overcome boredom or loneliness without that faithful friend
    • have confidence
    • fit in at work
    • have fun with friends without a drink – people expect me to drink alot
    • I will never be able to numb myself from past hurt, memories or trauma(s)

Many people are in denial and don’t want to face the unpleasant truth of their own drinking

You know your own reasons.

Many of my clients think they are the only one feeling this way and that no-one can see that they need help.  Often this is because others either don’t know how to broach the subject, who to turn to or where to find non-judgmental help.

One of the most liberating actions you can do is to take that first step, by acknowledging that you are ready to seek help.  You may be surprised to know how many have already taken this step to build the foundations to change their life and successfully reduce their alcohol dependence with hypnotherapy for alcohol reduction or stopping.

Is alcohol causing me harm?

Many of my clients are unaware of the current Australian guidelines to reduce health risks from drinking alcohol. The Guidelines have been developed using the most recent and best available evidence on the health effects of alcohol consumption.

Guideline 1: Reducing the risk of alcohol-related harm for adults

To reduce the risk of harm from alcohol-related disease or injury, healthy men and women should drink no more than 10 standard drinks a week and no more than 4 standard drinks on any one day. The less you drink, the lower your risk of harm from alcohol.

Guideline 2: Children and people under 18 years of age

To reduce the risk of injury and other harms to health, children and people under 18 years of age should not drink alcohol.

Guideline 3: Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding

To prevent harm from alcohol to their unborn child, women who are pregnant or planning a pregnancy should not drink alcohol. For women who are breastfeeding, not drinking alcohol is safest for their baby.

Empower yourself with alcohol reduction

Investing in your future health and wellbeing and taking that first step towards change is often the most challenging but also the most rewarding.  Through a tailored hypnotherapy alcohol reduction program, I have successfully been able to guide numerous clients with concerns about their alcohol abuse, binge drinking or one too many, on their journey to transform their lives.  Men and women just like you.

How will hypnotherapy benefit me?

  • Firstly the empowerment to take back control
  • Secondly to develop a healthier perspective and relationship with alcohol
  • Thirdly get your life back on track to achieve what you want and live life optimally.

Using transformative therapies such as hypnosis for alcohol and NLP (neuro-linguistic programming) my clients can generate the tools and boost their inner resources to change their relationship with alcohol to stop drinking or alcohol reduction within healthy guidelines and regain control of their lives.

Are you in Denial?

Denial is a defence mechanism where a person refuses to acknowledge reality or the seriousness of a situation.  It helps protect the mind from stress, fear or shame.  But it also prevents people from facing problems and making positive changes.

Examples of ways someone avoids facing uncomfortable truths include:

  • a smoker insisting cigarettes don’t harm their health
  • someone downplaying their alcohol use
  • a person dismissing relationship issues as “not a problem”

Signs of denial include:

  • blaming others
  • hiding behaviours
  • being defensive
  • making excuses
  • dismissing concerns, or
  • comparing yourself to others to minimise your actions.

If you often justify harmful behaviours, denial may be at play.

People stay in denial to reduce cognitive dissonance – the comfort of holding conflicting beliefs or actions.  Denial provides temporary relief by replacing unpleasant truths with excuses or false beliefs, even if it harms long-term well being.

Overcoming denial starts with self awareness.

  • Acknowledging the behaviour
  • be honest with yourself
  • replace excuses with the truth, and
  • seek support if you need it.

Hypnotherapy can help uncover and resolve the subconscious reasons behind denial.
